The battery control box is usually located inside a closet, garage or attic. Note: the control panel box is not to be confused with the panel keypad which is used to arm and disarm the security system.
Examine the old battery, if it looks abnormal (has a swollen or split case, liquid is leaking from the case, the case is hot to the touch, the terminals are corroded), schedule onalert service by calling 800.238.2727 and remove your system from test. There could be a serious problem with your system.
Disconnect the battery Pull the black wire s connector from the negative (-) battery terminal. The connector may need to be slightly wiggled to loosen and disconnect it. Use pliers with electrically insulated handles, to avoid receiving a shock. Repeat the process to remove the red wire s connector from the positive (+) battery terminal. Remove the old battery from the control panel box. Make sure you don t touch any metal objects to the terminals on the battery or to the open end of the black and red wire connectors.
Place the new battery inside the control panel box. If there are plastic terminal protectors on the replacement battery, remove them before connecting the wires to the battery. Connect the red wire to the (+) positive terminal of the new battery by pushing the connector firmly onto the terminal. Connect the black wire to the (-) negative terminal of the new battery by pushing the connector firmly onto the terminal.
Check the alarm keypad and see if it still displays a BAT or SYSTEM LO BAT message. If the message is still displayed, the new battery may need to recharge. If you are still receiving the message 48 hours after installing the new battery, call Customer Care at 800.238.2727.
When the BAT or SYSTEM LO BAT message is no longer displayed on the keypad, test the security system to make sure that it is working properly by placing it on test and triggering an alert, by opening a door or window that is monitored.
