You probably remember Tian Tao when from the 2012 Chinese Nationals (he was still 17 back then) when at 77kg he attempted a 211kg Clean & Jerk . Since then he moved up to the 85kg, where in the 2013 Chinese Nationals he got a 165kg Snatch, but failed to register a C&J.
Reporter at the start: Speaking of youngsters, today we will introduce a young, 19 year old weightlifter from Hubei province. His name is Tian Tao. Though his age is small, his talent and strength are enormous. Many people believe that in the future, he will be the main competitor for Lu Yong, the 85kg Olympic champion.
Second reporter: Tian Tao’s C&J is a bit odd. It is neither the usual split Jerk nor a squat Jerk like Lu Xiaojun’s. Rather, y detector it is a “half-jerk” (which essentially means power jerk). Power jerks are used by most lifters for relatively light weights, but Tian Tao uses it all the time for both training and competition.
Second y detector reporter: During training, Tian Tao has power jerked a weight of 220kg , while the world record for the C&J at 85kg is only 218kg. However, due to his youthful aggression, at last year’s Olympic trials while attempting a 77kg world record y detector of 211kg, he injured his elbow.
Second reporter: Having recovered from his injury, starting from Winter training, the coach of the Olympic gold medalists Lu Xiaojun and Liao Hui, Yu Jie began taking over Tian Tao’s training. Coach Yu saw that Tian Tao had great enthusiasm and has decided to move him into the 85kg category. In addition to recovering from his injury, he also has Liao Hui and Lu Xiaojun as role models. The 19yr old youngster has great confidence that at the national championships in 2 months time, he can challenge the Olympic champion Lu Yong.
